Estimate Contracts
Create contracts from estimates to present pricing to customers and collect signatures.
How Estimates and Contracts Work Together
Estimates contain your detailed cost calculations and pricing. When you're ready to present to a customer:
- Create a contract from the estimate
- Configure what details to show the customer
- Send for electronic signature
- Customer signs and the estimate is locked
Key Concept
Estimates are not sent directly to customers. Instead, you create a Contract that can include estimate details. The contract is what the customer sees and signs.
Creating a Contract from an Estimate
- Open the project estimate
- Click Create Contract or go to Contracts tab
- Select a contract type (usually Project Proposal)
- Choose a contract template
- Configure display options:
- Show line item detail vs. summary
- Include or hide pricing breakdown
- Add optional items section
- Set signees (who needs to sign)
- Save the contract
For detailed instructions, see Creating Contracts.
What's Included in the Contract
The contract can display information from your estimate:
- Estimate summary - Total price, deposit amount
- Line item detail - Full breakdown of work
- Selections - Customer's product choices
- Scope of work - Description of what's included
- Terms and conditions - Your standard terms
- Payment schedule - When payments are due
See Contract Configuration for display options.
What Happens When Signed
When the customer signs a project proposal:
- Estimate locks - No more changes without a change order
- Project marked sold - Sale stage updates to Won
- Sold amount set - Project's sold amount = estimate total
- Invoices created - Based on payment schedule
- Notifications sent - Team notified of new sale
For full details on post-signature behavior, see Post-Signature Actions.
Change Orders
After a contract is signed, use Change Orders for modifications:
- Create a new estimate for the change
- Create a Change Order contract
- Send for signature
- When signed, updates project totals
See Change Orders for the complete workflow.
