Change Orders
Change orders track approved modifications to the original project scope and contract.
What is a Change Order?
A change order is a formal document that modifies:
- The scope of work
- The project timeline
- The contract price
Change orders ensure all parties agree to modifications and maintain accurate project financials.
When to Use Change Orders
Create a change order when:
- Customer requests additional work
- Unforeseen conditions require scope changes
- Design modifications affect pricing
- Timeline adjustments are needed
Change Order Types
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Add | Additional scope not in original contract |
| Deduct | Removed scope, reduces contract |
| No Cost | Scope change with no price impact |
Accessing Change Orders
From a project:
- Click Financials in the navigation
- Select Change Orders
Or use Quick Actions:
- Click Create Change Order (sold projects only)
Change Order Status
Track change orders through approval workflow:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Draft | Being created, not submitted |
| Pending | Submitted for customer approval |
| Approved | Customer approved, added to contract |
| Declined | Customer rejected |
| Void | Cancelled before approval |
Financial Impact
Approved change orders:
- Update the total contract value
- Create separate line items for tracking
- Appear in financial reports
- May trigger additional invoicing
